COME JOIN US!

Andrea Lynn Cianflone joins conductor Eugene Sirotkine and the Hudson Valley Singers for one special night at the historic Irvington Theater in New York to celebrate the Christmas Season.

About the CONDUCTOR

Eugene Sirotkine’s selfless commitment and insatiable desire to make music create an electric connection between him, his performers, and his listeners. At the same time, an almost psychic ability to channel a composer’s intentions makes him riveting, both to work with and listen to. The San Francisco Chronicle, on the occasion of Mr. Sirotkine’s Carmen, noted his “passionate approach to music-making spoke to members of the audience and orchestra.” The Cape Times of South Africa wrote, “Sirotkine demonstrated empathy for the onstage singing, crafting an accompaniment that was pleasingly sensitive and well-balanced.” A St. Petersburg-born conductor who debuted with the Latvian Philharmonic in St. Petersburg in 1989, Sirotkine was assistant conductor and chorus master with The New York Metropolitan Opera from 1999 until 2008.

He is now in his 27th year as conductor and musical director of the Hudson Valley Singers. Over the past two decades Sirotkine has conducted orchestras and choruses worldwide, including The Hong Kong Philharmonic, Cuyo National University Symphony Orchestra of Argentina, The National Symphony Orchestra of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, The Cali Philharmonic of Colombia, and The Cape Philharmonic and Cape Town Opera of South Africa. He has conducted The Kennedy Center Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, Washington, and The New York Metamorphoses Orchestra, in collaboration with The Paul Taylor Dance Company, at City Center, New York. Mr. Sirotkine has conducted a considerable variety of choral works, ranging over the years from Bach passions and Handel oratorios to such lesser performed, but no less exciting, works as Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Honegger’s La Danse Des Morts. The selection and execution of these works bespeak ecumenical taste, untiring curiosity, and superior ability.

About the SINGERS

The Hudson Valley Singers is a diverse group of individuals from all over the tri-state area. What brings this group of people together is a mutual love for music, and a desire to share that passion with others. Enriching the cultural life of Westchester and Manhattan since 1951, the chorus gave its debut concert on March 15th, 1951, at The Graham School in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. The group has been in existence continuously since that time, performing choral music from the 17th through 20th centuries. The group’s objectives have always been to contribute to the cultural life of the community through public performances and to provide eager choral singers with professional instruction. Eugene Sirotkine took over as Music Director for the group in 1998. Under his direction the group has been able to extend itself and take on increasingly more demanding works. In the spring of 2008, the Singers gave a rare performance of Robert Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri at The New York Society for Ethical Culture. They have also performed internationally in places like Costa Rica, Hungary and the Netherlands. In March of 2011, the chorus traveled to Amsterdam to reprise Dvorak’s Stabat Mater at Concertgebouw, a world-renowned venue prized for its extraordinary acoustics and architectural beauty.

Featured Projects

Andrea plays lead role of Maria Callas

Andrea Lynn Cianflone played the role of Maria Callas in LA DIVINA, a one-act play with live-performed arias about the life of soprano opera legend Maria Callas. Spanning the years from Callas’ teenage life in WWII-era Greece to her death in Paris in 1977, the play focuses on Callas the woman, the artist, and the restless soul. The video to the right shows a representative picture of Andrea playing Maria Callas, though this particular aria, “Habanera,” from Carmen by George Bizet, was not part of the theater production produced by Minnesota Concert Opera in the JSB Tek Box at The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota.
